MT EVEREST BASE CAMP PROJECT

Team leaves Saturday, October 4, 2008

On October 4, seven individuals including a member of the Epilepsy Foundation Kentuckiana's Board of Directors, Scott Moody, will embark on a trip to Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal. During their journey, a professional filmmaker, David Kiern, will be filming to incorporate the teams climb and struggles they encounter to reach Base Camp with struggles children and adults with epilepsy face, many on a daily basis. One child in particular will be highlighted in the film. He is eight-year old Alex Harpole who has Dravet's Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy. Alex's climb is to make it through another day.

Alex, his parents Carrie and Paul, and Deb McGrath of the Epilepsy Foundation Kentuckiana met with the team prior to their departure, thanking them for their bravery, dedication, and commitment to make a difference in the lives of others affected by epilepsy, like Alex. The team understands and realizes that Alex will never be able to climb a mountain, so they are climbing it for him and every other child and adult living with epilepsy. For this, we are extremely grateful to each team member!

At nearly 18,000 feet in altitude, Everest Base Camp is the staging area for climbers attempting to summit Mt. Everest, the world's largest peak. The team is practicing leadership principals, including servant leadership, that considers the needs of other individuals before self. The team chose to promote and support the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana during this once in a lifetime journey and experience.

Scott, EFKY's Board member, stated "Going to base camp is more than just a physical goal for me. It gives me an opportunity to bring attention to this very worthy organization as well as promote the contribution of funds for the accomplishment of its "Everest-sized" vision."

You are invited to be a part of the Mt. Everest Base Camp Project and join OUR team to raise epilepsy awareness and funds.

Team members include, Scott, Ed, Mike, Doug, David, Kevin and Ann. Also with the team are Alex and his service animal, Lady, parents Paul and Carrie, and Deb McGrath, Executive Director of the Foundation
